KOTA KINABALU: The booming oil and gas (O&G) industry augurs well for the future of Sabah’s economy, says Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok.

In this respect, he acknowledged that the crucial role played by Petronas in galvanising oil and gas activities in the state.

“We hope our state and our people will get the maximum benefit of a thriving oil and gas industry in Sabah,” he said in his remarks at the closing ceremony of the Sabah Oil and Gas Forum here yesterday.

His speech was read by State Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Donald Mojuntin.

Dompok thanked the Sabah Oil and Gas Contractors Association (SOGCA) for staging the event, which among others aimed at exploring the potential of the state’s O&G industry.

“SOGCA’s effort is leading the way forward in the growing industry for the wider good of our state, and we hope this type of forum can be organised on a regular basis,” he said.

Dompok said he was aware of Petronas’ stringent policy on the issuance of licences, but hoped that it would not stifle Sabah’s existing licensed O&G companies.

He also commended Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman’s strong support of SOGCA’s efforts and his continuous encouragement to potential O&G players to build up the industry in a big way in the state. — Bernama
