MARUDI: Residents here have been living without piped water supply since Saturday after the water pumps at the treatment plant near Kuala Dabai broke down.
Baram District Officer Joseph Belayong when contacted said the JKR engineer and contractor in charge of the pumps were away in Miri and will only be back tomorrow soonest.
He also said that all three pumps had broken leaving residents here high and dry as many failed to store up water in personal water tanks before the break down.
Worst hit were coffee shops and restaurants that are really in need of water for cooking, cleaning and washing. Meanwhile, Belayong advised the authorities concerned to borrow water pumps from other contractors in the area as a temporary measure especially during this Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration period to meet the festive needs.
