MARUDI: Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Jacob Dungau Sagan thanked the school authority and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of SK Long Jegan for acquiring a grandstand so parents can have a better
view of sporting events at the field.

The ‘Penghulu Tangga Subai Grandstand’ named after the late penghulu was paid for with the RM20,000 in MRP fund provided by Sagan last year.

The Baram MP was speaking at the opening ceremony for the mini sport held by SK Long Jegan, Upper Tinjar on Friday.

He urged parents to work with the school in educating their  children, especially those sitting for the UPSR, in readiness for the numerous employment opportunities from programmes like the Government Transformation Program (GTP), Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) and SCORE projects. He also pointed out that a Japan company had invested RM6 billion in a project(s) in Semilau, Bintulu.

Sagan said their children could  obtain their degrees, masters and doctorates from Curtin University in  Miri.

Headmaster Inchis Luna meanwhile informed that the school was short of living quarters for teachers, with most of them sharing although some were married with families.

The contractor said there was lack of funds to complete the teachers’ quarters.

Sagan disagreed, saying he had noticed construction materials left lying around the premises, but would personally bring their problem to the Education Ministry.

He announced another RM20,000 to the PTA of SK Long Jegan to build infrastructure.

Among those who spoke were SK Long Jegan headmaster Inchis Luna and PTA chairman Nyadau Mesti.

Others present were Penghulu Patrick Jelaman Tanggah, TK Francis Ubi and TR Melina Anom.
