KLANG: The mother of a medical student who was slashed to death by a would-be motorcycle thief in East Java, Indonesia last night, has appealed to the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta to expedite sending her son’s remains
home.

Recalling the tragic death of Public Service Department scholar Adrian Jay Pereira, 22, Mary Catherine De Cruz, who could not hold back tears when recalling the tragic death, said she and her family members did not want to face any complication in claiming the body.

“I only hope the remains of my son are returned home safely, without any  complication.

“The Malaysian Embassy alerted us about the incident and until now, we  are not sure what actually transpired,” she told reporters when met at her residence in Taman Klang Jaya here yesterday.

Describing Adrian as an obedient boy and a good student in school, De Cruz, 52, who works as a medical transcriptionist at the Sime Darby Medical Centre in Subang Jaya, said it would be painful and heartbreaking to watch the body of her son when it arrived from Indonesia.

“He was the apple of the eye for everyone and I loved him very much,” she said. Her other two children are daughters aged 16 and 19.

It was learnt that Adrian, a third-year student of the Medical Faculty at Universiti Brawijaya, Malang was resting in the living room of his rented house when he heard a noise in the porch.

He then noticed a man picking the locks to his motorcycle and shouted at the intruder who panicked and fled from the
scene.

Subsequently, Adrian took off on his machine to track down the suspect, only to return home and find the man there.
