MIRI: The At-Taqwa Mosque here leaks when it rains heavily and the committee has been urged to engage structural experts to assess the damage and the costs needed to get it repaired.

Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui yesterday came to the mosque to see for himself the extent of the leak. Accompanying him were officers from Miri District Office and the mosque officials.

Chin, also Miri MP, was told that the leaks from the main dome have badly affected the carpet in the prayer hall, which also needed to be replaced.

He urged the committee to come up with an estimate for repairs or even dome replacement, if recommended by the technical experts.

“If the cost could not be met with my minor rural project (MRP) fund, then I will bring the matter to the Prime Minister,” he said.

Chin, who is SUPP organising secretary and chairman of Miri-Sibuti Parliamentary Liaison Committee, said this at the end of his working visit to the mosque and Pulau Melayu yesterday.
