KAPIT: Hulu Rajang folk have been called on to continue supporting the Barisan Nasional (BN) under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
Hulu Rajang member of parliament Datuk Billy Abit Joo made the call during a recent leader with the people event at Uma Bawang, Sungai Asap, Belaga.
“Hulu Rajang is the epitome of ‘Rakyat Didahulukan, Pencapaian Diutamakan’. All the development in the past five years in Hulu Rajang were due to compassionate top leaders, who have the ‘jiwa rakyat’ spirit, which is practised by rural MPs (member of parliament).
“As I have said previously, this new effective approach by the government has allowed me to feel more empowered to serve the rakyat,” he said.
He pointed out that the presentation of 1Malaysia laptops in Sg Asap/Koyan was among the government’s initiatives to help the poor by enhancing their knowledge.
Abit urged community leaders to take the initiative to learn how to use the laptops to improve themselves as well as the lives of longhouse folk.
He stressed that the government still had many development plans to transform Baleh and Belaga, with priority given to basic infrastructural needs.
Abit also announced an RM20,000 grant to assist with improving infrastructure at Uma Bawang and to fund various village security and development committees (JKKKs) at Sungai Asap/Koyan.
