Appeal dismissed in manslaughter case

KUCHING: The Federal Court yesterday dismissed an appeal by a fisherman against his 18 years’ jail sentence for manslaughter imposed by the High Court.

The panel of judges comprising Tan Sri Arrifin Zakaria, Tan Sri Richard Malanjum and Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Embong, dismissed the appeal of Holickson Dolrisnes, 35.

On July 29, Holickson from Bau was sentenced to 18 years’ jail after pleading guilty to an amended charge under Section 304 of the Penal Code for causing the death of his friend Keddy Norris two years ago.

They were intoxicated when Holickson committed the crime at a house in Kampung Daun Singai, Bau onMarch 11, 2009.

High Court Judge Datuk Rhodzariah Bujang, who presided over the case, ordered Holickson to serve the custodial sentence from the date of his arrest.

Holickson was originally charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code but amended to Section 304 of the same code.

He subsequently made an appeal to the Court of Appeal but it was dismissed.

DPP Mangalakalarasi Krishnan was the appellant.
