KUALA TERENGGANU: Forty-seven flood victims from 11 families from Kampung Tasik Setiu who were evacuated to the flood relief centre at the village community hall yesterday morning are still staying at the centre.

A spokesman of the National Security Council, here said the number could have increased as operations to evacuate the victims were still going on.

He said, however, the 13 flood victims in the Hulu Terengganu district and four victims in Marang who were evacuated to the centre on Monday morning had returned to their respective homes last night.

“This is because the flood had subsided in the area where they are staying,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

He said heavy rain yesterday had caused the low-lying areas to be flooded in the affected districts.

The state Drainage and Irrigation Department reported that the water level in Sungai Nerus had exceeded the danger level yesterday morning.

The spokesman said that at 8am yesterday, the water level at Kampung Langkap was 21.53 metres (danger level (21.5m) and at Kampung Bukit, the level was 12.94 metres (danger level 12m).

However, he said the water level in the major rivers in the district was below the danger level. — Bernama
