SIBU: Many underprivileged people have become what they are today by circumstances and not through any fault of their own.

As such, they deserve a helping hands to make their lives worth living, said Temenggong Vincent Lau Lee Ming.

Calling on all quarters to show their care and concern for the less fortunate, he said a lot of them were left destitute because of ‘unfairness’ in society.

“Many are fated,” he said when officiating at the ‘Astro All Star Charity Show’ at the civic centre here Monday night.

Lau said the love, care and concern shown to the less fortunate would at least cheer them up and show them that they were not forgotten.

According to him, men were good and loving by nature. “Let our love manifest in our good deeds towards the less fortunate,” he said.

The show was co-organised by the See Hua Group of newspaper companies which comprises the See Hua Daily News, The Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo. See Hua group has been in existence for almost 50 years.

Lau, who is the chief operating officer of the group, noted that the group had never failed to send newspapers to schools for nearly five decades.

“We have never forgotten our society, we care about the people because this is our responsibility,” he said.

He added that the group had collaborated with many associations to hold charitable activities.

Also present at the function were ‘Astro All Star Charity Show’ organising chairman Dato Paduka Yong Choo Kui, UCA honorary president Dato Lau Cheng Kiong, UCA president Datuk Lau Nai Hoh and chairman of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sarawak, Wong Aik Loung.
