Branch election dispute continues unabated

SIBU: Despite SUPP branch election committee here having displayed the nomination forms of the 11 members that were wrongly filled at the party headquarters, members of the so-called Dudong Revival Committee remained defiant and continued to dispute the validity of the branch election on Nov 12.

Two of its members, Huong Haw Ching and Ling Hung King said it was not fair for the Sibu branch election to exhibit the nomination forms of the 11 of them.

“They should also exhibit the names of the 35 other candidates so that the people can make a comparison of the nomination forms,” he said.

According to Huong, the details of the 11 members including subscription receipts and the membership numbers were all provided by the executive secretary of the party organising secretariat Voon Tiong Liu.

Huong said they got the written copy from Voon and if the Sibu branch election committee wanted to see the written copy, they were welcomed to fix a date, place and time to view the written copy.

Huong also said the format of the nomination papers for this conference was not in accordance with the format approved by the party central committee.

As a result of such deviation in the prescribed form, he said the nomination on Nov 12 should therefore be null and void as this was against the party constitution.

Huong said the nomination forms must follow the standard system statewide so that it would not cause confusion and mislead the candidates.

On the reasons given by the Sibu branch election committee that Huong refused to answer their calls despite several attempts made to contact him, Huong said the branch election committee could have contacted the rest of the 11 members to make rectification.

“If they cannot contact me, they can contact the rest of the 11 members. Were not the other 11 worth contacting?” he asked.

Huong also pointed out that all the 11 were life members of the party.

“If life members could not take part in the nomination then what is there to say?” he asked.

“And how can Sibu branch convince the 600 party delegates to vote for them for higher posts if life members do not have the rights to take part in the branch election?” he asked.
