Ensure all get RM500 one-off aid — Salang

PAKAN: Julau member of parliament Datuk Joseph Salang has advised longhouse chiefs to do a headcount of people under their supervision to ensure that they do not miss out on the government’s RM500 one-off payment for families with a household monthly income of less than RM3,000.

He said people in about 5,000 longhouses and villages inSarawakstood to gain from the payment, provided for in the 2012 federal budget and which would be given out beginning next year.

“It will be good if all the longhouse chiefs and members of village development and security committees do a proper headcount so as to avert anyone being inadvertently left out and resulting in anger and dissatisfaction,” he told a meet-the-people session at the Eddy anak Madang longhouse in Ulu Manding near here last night. He also visited two other longhouses.

He reminded the longhouse chiefs that the aid should be given to all the people, regardless of their political affiliation.

Salang, who is federal deputy information, communications and culture minister, said the budget had also made provision for a one-off payment of RM100 as schooling aid for pupils and students in government and private schools nationwide. — Bernama
