HAPPY TIME: Lily and Michael, assisted by their children and grandchildren, cut their wedding anniversary cake.

KAPIT: A retired civil servant who formerly worked with Kapit District Council, Michael Lasu Nyantaw and his wife Lily Mary a former council librarian celebrated their 40th (Ruby jubilee) wedding anniversary here Sunday evening.

It was attended by about 50 close friends including Fr David Ho of the St Mary Immaculate Conception Church here.

The couple tied the knot on Feb 28, 1971 at St Herbert Church in Song which was solemnised by Fr Thomas O’ Connors.

They were blessed with three children – Roland, Clement Ringo and Alice – and have nine grandchildren (six girls and three boys).

All their children were present at the gathering except for Clement because his wife is expecting.

In his speech at the gathering, Michael thanked all for their presence, adding that this was the first time they celebrated their wedding anniversary.

“Family upbringing is no
easy task because it requires patience, tolerance and lots of compromises.

“The bottom line is that we managed to get through all the challenges.”
