KUCHING: A senior citizen died metres away from her home when the bicycle she was riding was involved in a collision with a car at Taman Desa Wira in Batu Kawah on Wednesday.
The deceased, 66-year-old Wong Chin Ing, was cycling back to her house at Lorong 10 after participating in a group exercise session for senior citizens at the preceding lane when the incident occurred around 9.40pm.
Wong is said to have been turning into the lane leading to her house when she collided with an oncoming car and was flung head-first against the windscreen.
Residents nearby, as well as participants of the exercise session who were making their home as well, rushed to her aid and quickly notified her family members living just several metres away.
Paramedics from the Sarawak General Hospital later pronounced her dead at the scene.
The male car driver was not hurt in the accident.
District traffic police personnel were on hand to investigate the fatal crash before sending the body to the mortuary for a post-mortem.
