Hindu temple to conduct ‘Maha Kumbhabishekam’ next year

KUCHING: A ‘balasthanam’ ceremony was held by Hindu Temple Association Kuching, which manages the Sri Srinivasagar Kaliamman Temple, recently.

The ceremony involved the removing of deities from the main shrines to a temporary site within the temple, and was the start of the many rituals to prepare for the main consecration ceremony (Maha Kumbhabishekam) planned for next year.

With the completion of this ceremony yesterday, construction works for the refurbishment and renovation will commence soon.

A spokesman for the Temple Building Renovation Committee said the cost for the works is expected to reach RM1.2 million, which also includes the construction of the much awaited ‘rajakoburum’, the structure at the entrance of the temple.

Patron of the committee Datuk Dr R Palan, a highly successful businessman and philanthropist, who was present at the function, pledged to assist the committee raise the necessary funds for the renovation works.

As a personal donation, he made a pledge of RM51,000 towards the fund.

Among the other specially invited guests at the function were Penghulu T Komurusamy and Indian Association Kuching President Cr Anthony Ramanair.
