MIRI: Some 100 women from various associations took part in the Women Self-Defence Clinic at Miri Tai Poo Community Association last Thursday.

Organised by the women group of Federation of Chinese Associations in collaboration with Soo Bahk Doo Association, the basic self-defence clinic was conducted by two coaches from Australian Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan, Master Leonie Broman and Master Lauren Anderson.

Organising chairlady Lee Swee Hiong told The Borneo Post that the clinic was the association’s second collaboration with Soo Bahk Doo Association.

Lee said similar clinic was organised last year at the same venue but it was designed for students.

As women are exposed to various threats of violence and are easy crime targets, the organiser has decided to dedicate the clinic to women to better defend themselves should they find their personal safety under threat.

Also present was the chairman of the Federation of Chinese Associations of Miri, Soo Mei Kong.
