Inquest into death of tourist Dec 27-30

KOTA KINABALU: An inquest into the death of an elderly Korean tourist who was killed in a road accident last year, will be held on Dec 27 to 30.

Magistrate Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim set the dates for the inquest into the death of Chu Chong Duk, 83, at the request of traffic prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Wilynton E. Watt who stood in for Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharuddin.

Wilynton told the court that the prosecution had received an instruction from the DPP’s office in Putrajaya to hold the inquest.

He said the application was made under Section 339 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Wilynton also informed the court that they expect to call 15 witnesses during the inquest, including four Koreans; two of them are the sons of the victim.

It was reported in a local paper that Chu arrived in Kota Kinabalu on Dec 6, last year.

He was hit by a vehicle while crossing the Sulaman road from Alam Mesra towards 1Borneo Hypermall about 8.30am on Dec 8, 2010.

The impact of the accident caused his body to be thrown about five meters away and landed on the side of the dual carriageway while the windscreen of the car was badly damaged.
