MIRI: Swindlers are selling photocopied 1Malaysia People Assistance (BR1M) application forms to unsuspecting applicants for 50 sen each even though these forms can be obtained free of charge from the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) and relevant government agencies.

‘Petition writers’ have also sprung into action, peddling their service for as much as RM5 per form.

When The Borneo Post alerted IRB Miri, one of its officers confirmed that the forms were free of charge, but the board had yet to receive any public complaints concerning the existence of swindlers which were taking advantage of the situation.

He added that since the form was first distributed last Saturday, IRB Miri branch had given out some 10,000 forms to members of the public.

“Those forms which were distributed before Dec 10 are fakes and not valid.”

In any case, he advised members of the public not to get the form from unknown sources.

“Meanwhile, don’t panic. We have enough forms to go around.”

The IRB Miri counter would be opened until January 10 next year for distribution of the BR1M forms.

Similar counters are also opened at Miri Court, district offices in Limbang, Marudi, and Lawas, and at the following sub-districts: Sibuti, Niah, Long Lama, Bakong, Nanga Medamit, Sundar, Trusan.
