IPOH: Starting next year, Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) will introduce people-friendly homes (RMRs), which will be built based on green design technology and materials.

Its managing director Datuk Dr Kamarul Rashdan Salleh said the construction of 10,000 units of the RMRs was announced in the 2012 Budget.

He said four designs of the RMR would be offered at a cost of about RM65,000 each, RM20,000 of which would be subsidised by the government.

“The government will bear the overall subsidy of RM200 million,” he told reporters after presenting the RMR key to a recipient here yesterday.

He said the size of the house would also be increased to 1,000 square feet versus the original design of 866 square feet.

Among the special features of the RMR would be the fact that they would be built using heat-absorbing components and materials, as well as being equipped with rainwater harvesting system, said Kamarul, adding that the recipient of the RMR would only have to pay a monthly installment of RM150 over the period of 25 years. — Bernama
