A trip down memory lane for St Joseph’s Scouts

REKINDLING THE SPIRIT: Former scouts with Brother Columba (centre) at the reunion.

KUCHING: Once a Scout always a Scout- the age old scouting adage was proven true when the St Joseph’s Scouts Group held its reunion recently.

The occasion drew a crowd of former Scouts of St Joseph ranging from the sixties era to the present day.

Some were sporting the green and white scarf of the group, much shorter since they were worn decades ago as the owner has out grown its size.

For many it was a nostalgic trip down memory lane and a time to rekindle friendship and swap stories of their scouting days.

The years appear not to have eroded their scouting spirit, judging from the boisterous laughter emanating from the crowd.

St Joseph’s Scout Group, the oldest uniform body in the school, was founded in 1950 by Dominic Oh.

Speaking at the reunion, Brother Columba, former principal of the St Joseph’s School, paid tribute to service the Scouts had rendered to the school and his fervent belief that scouting had contributed to the character-building of the students of the school.
