KUCHING: For the fifth year running, Celcom Axiata Berhad lighted up the city with their trademark Xpax Giant Xmas Tree, this time at Premier 101 commercial centre.

On Sunday night, the tree was lighted up in front of hundreds of food patrons and 30 children from the Sarawak Children Cancer Society.

“After the first time we put up the giant Xmas tree, we promised from that day onwards that we will continue to build the giant tree every year,” said Celcom Axiata Bhd state general manager (Sarawak) Doris Ting during the lighting of the tree.

Ting also said their expectation was not for Xpax to live up to its name as the only prepaid brand to come up with a giant Xmas tree each year, but to ensure the love and joy of Christmas is felt by the people of Kuching, especially the younger generation.

The 70 feet tree, said Ting, is also decorated with numerous Xpax logo, where those who wish to join in the contest by counting the number of ‘X’ would stand a chance to win attractive prizes on Dec 31.

She said to submit the answers, SMS it by typing X<space>number of ‘X’ and send to 32202.

The charge for the sms will be RM0.30 for Celcom customers and RM0.50 for non-Celcom customers.

The first Xpax tree was at Travillion carpark, while the second one was erected at tHe Spring Shopping Mall, followed by Permata Carpark, and SJK Chung Hua No.3.

Among other attractions besides the giant Xpax tree is a ‘Wishing Well’, where an ‘X message card’ is obtainable at RM1 to make wishes.

“This year, contributors to the wishing well will also get a chance to realise their dream in winning a Samsung handphone.”

Also present were deputy mayor of Kuching City South Affendi Annuar, Celcom chief Regional Network Officer Jefri Ahmad Tambi, Celcom director of Regional Sales Sabah and Sarawak Choo Meng Chung, regional manager East Malaysia Allison Lau, managing director of Eastern Alliance Nguan Teng Keng, Kuching district police chief Mun Kok Keong, and Sarawak Children Cancer Society president Gary Ho.
