KUCHING: The state’s Malaysia Drug Prevention Association (Pemadam) is always looking for the best approach through its programmes and activities to prevent drug abuse here.

The association also hopes government agencies and departments collaborate with it so social ills and drug problems could be eradicated to achieve the country’s mission of being a drug free nation by 2015.

State Pemadam president Datuk Sharifah Mordiah Tuanku Fauzi said this when chairing the Pemadam 25th Coordinator Committee Members meeting at a prominent hotel here last Monday.

In her address, she also urged Pemadam at the district level to organise more activities and programmes to create awareness about the danger of drug abuse not only for youths, but also parents.

At the meeting, a presentation of Pemadam activities and programmes throughout 2011, plans for drug prevention and educational programmes for 2012 on the seriousness of drug abuse were also presented.

Representatives from the state Royal Police Department, Sarawak Education Department and National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada) briefed those present on the statistics and current issues pertaining to the drug situation in the state.

Also present at the meeting was the director of Women Bureau, Norjanah Razali.
