KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (RTD) will not be carrying out operations in conjunction with the Christmas festive season, but will instead continue routine enforcement, said its Director-General Datuk Solah Mat Hasan.

This includes stationing JPJ enforcement personnel at 35 bus terminals nationwide for joint inspection by the police and National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), he said.

“We will also continue disguising as bus passengers and taking action on ticket touts at bus stations and airports,” he told Bernama today.

RTD special operations are usually held during the festive season, such as Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Chinese New Year, to monitor high-risk roads following the exodus of motorists during these periods, he said.

He added that traffic volume can increase to 1.4 million vehicles a day during the festive season compared to only 1.1 million on normal days.

Solah said more cars will be plying the nation’s roads starting this Saturday as people rush back to their hometowns or holiday destinations in conjuction with the Christmas break, school holidays and New Year.

Therefore, he advised motorists to exercise caution when travelling by wearing their seatbelts, including for rear passengers.

“There will be many vehicles on the road so be careful when driving, especially since it is rainy season and roads are slippery. Let’s try to avoid any type of accidents,” he said. – Bernama
