Missing fishermen rescued by Myanmar trading vessel

LANGKAWI: Four fishermen reported missing were rescued by a Myanmar trading vessel south-west of Pulau Segantang off the coast of Langkawi, after their boats capsized on Tuesday morning.

Md Habib Kasa, 51 (captain), Kasim Ghazali, 56, and two Thai nationals Ham Peng and Som Mai, were rescued and brought to the Tanjung Marina Jetty Tuesday evening.

The four men were among 11 on board three fishing boats believed to have capsized in the waters of Pulau
Segantang.

Seven of them were rescued by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and local fishermen shortly after the mishap.

Northern Region maritime chief enforcement officer, first admiral, Tan Kok Kwee said they were informed by the fishing boat captain’s family that the four men had been rescued by a trading vessel.

“Based on this information, the Penang MMEA boat headed to the Tanjung Marina Jetty to handle the victims,” he said here, yesterday.

They were sent back to Kuala Kedah after making their report about 7.30 am. — Bernama
