KUCHING: All flood victims were allowed to leave the relief centres to go home as of yesterday.
A spokesman from the State Flood Operations Room said all seven flood relief centres active on Friday had closed. The last relief centre to close was the one at Pangkalan Pantu, Sri Aman at 9.30am yesterday.
“The operations room will not be closed yet. It will remain open until we receive directive to close,” said the spokesman.
The floods statewide were caused by incessant torrential rain during the Christmas period, leading to flooding of many low-lying areas and the evacuation of the victims.
At its peak, 4,820 flood victims from 1,120 families were evacuated to 16 centres, including 150 people from 37 families at Pangkalan Pantu putting up at SK Chung Hua Pantu.
