UUM targets 10 per cent lecturers with PhDs by 2020

SINTOK: Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) is targeting to have 10 per cent of its 1,200 lecturers holding Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees and be one of the world’s top 100 universities by 2020.

UUM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said even though more than 90 UUM lecturers had obtain PhDs, many of them would be retiring in the coming years.

“UUM has implemented various efforts and initiatives to encourage lecturers to
further their studies at the PhD level.

“However, I’m confident that the target of at least 10 per cent of UUM lecturers with PhDs by 2020 will be achieved,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

Mohamed Mustafa also said UUM’s Masters of Science (MSc) programme in Banking which was listed in the Top 100 Best Masters in Global Financial Markets Banking recently, had given a further boost to the university. — Bernama
