KUCHING: The search for Kho Ying Qi and Herman Sihas, believed to have drowned after being swept away during Thursday’s flash flood, entered its second day yesterday.

An extensive search involving the Fire and Rescue Services Department, police and Civil Defence Department resumed at 6.30am, with rescuers utilising boats and jet skis to scour the
length of Sungai Maong and its tributaries in the hope of locating the missing pair.

As of press time yesterday, neither of the victims had been found.

SMK Batu Lintang student Kho, 19, and petrol station employee Herman, 28, were
swept away by swift-flowing water in a monsoon drain around 7am on Thursday when sections of the city were inundated by flash floods.

The Upper Form 6 girl was walking to a bus stop at Jalan Rock after her car stalled in the flood when she slipped and fell into the swollen drain. Herman jumped into the drain together with an off duty fireman to rescue Kho despite being a non-swimmer, and was swept away with the girl.
