Two police reports lodged against rally

JULAU: Community leaders lodged two police reports yesterday to protest the staging of the ‘Free Annuar 901’ assembly in the compound of Kuala Lumpur High Court this Monday.

One report was lodged by chairman of Julau Longhouse Headmen Association, John Okin and the other by Hong Sing Sing representing other community leaders.

Holding such an assembly was uncalled for as it showed disrespect for the country’s judicial system, Okin said, adding that there must be an ulterior motive as it was planned on the day the High Court was to deliver its verdict on Annuar’s sodomy case.

They were afraid the organisers would get students to be involved as that might adversely affect their studies and future, he added.

“We are worried that the organisers of the assembly would lure youngsters. As community leaders we are worried about the safety of students from Sarawak should the assembly erupt into violence,”  Okin said.

TR Hong Sing Sing in his report expressed a similar concern.

He said the assembly was unnecessary and uncivilised and could undermine the country’s peace and stability, and that the authority should prevent the assembly from taking place at any cost.

Among the headmen accompanying Okin and Hong were TR Jelian, TR Unan, TR Michael Lutau, TR Nyaiyang, TR Genta and TR Banyang.
