Community leaders urged to reach out to people

TAWAU: Balung assemblyman Datuk Syed Abas Syed Ali wants all community leaders in Balung to continue the Barisan Nasional (BN) tradition of always reaching out to the people.

“When they (leaders) do that, they can encourage people to be more positive in life.

“They can also make the people aware that what they enjoy now is the result of the leaders’ effort,” he said during a working visit to Kampung Kinabutan Darat, yesterday.

During the visit, Abas visited the almost completed multi-purpose hall building and the village cemetery.

Meanwhile, Abas said leaders would also be able to involve the participation of citizens in the enjoyment of prosperity and progress, not just a bystander.

He also reminded them of the need for more cooperation in serving the people rather than having differences in opinion which would result in conflict among themselves.

“There is nothing to be gained if we are divided.

“We should learn from our own experience in the past 20 or 30 years when the great partnership between our people of different races, religions and backgrounds yielded better results for the country,” he said.
