ANOTHER MURDER: Policemen bringing the body of Lau Leh Hing to the hospital after the specialists had pronounced him dead.

SIBU: Car pulls up outside shop, one shot fired, man collapses and dies on way to specialist medical centre.

All it took was a matter of seconds.

A sliver-coloured car with three men inside pulled up at Brooke Drive at 10.15 am yesterday, one of them took out a gun and shot dead a businessman who was entering a shop selling safety equipment.

Lau Leh Hing, 42, collapsed in front of the shop and died on the way to a specialist medical centre.

Although only one shot was fired, Leh Hing had multiple wounds. Police chief Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said: “The lone bullet splintered into many pellets and they hit Lau.”

The daring gun attack comes just a week after this town was hit by another dastardly strike, this time on an innocent family.
On Jan 3, a teenager intruded into the house of businessman Ling Tong Hock to steal a computer USB cable.

He ended up killing Ling, his mother and two of his three children.

The other child was badly injured in the gruesome incident, and is currently being treated at the Sarawak General Hospital.
Police Commissioner Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said a CSI team from Kuching was heading this way to help solve the murder.

He said this was the same team which cracked the RTM Road murder.

The quadruple murder was solved within three days.

“Police are now determining whether Lau was involved in underground activities, and as the probe proceeds, we are confident it will shed some light in due time,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

He called on the public not to speculate, saying rumours would not help solve the case. He said they should instead help the police if they had information about the crime or had seen the murder.

“Police believe that when a shot was fired, Lau immediately collapsed.

“Eye witnesses said three men had come in a silver-coloured car, a shot was fired from inside the vehicle, and the car sped off. It occurred so fast.”

He said there were no CCTV sets nearby, but his men would scrutinise the town’s CCTV network to help nail the culprits.

“This might take some time, but we are committed. We have already set up three road blocks at strategic points after the murder.”

Acryl said Lau was walking into the shop with his friend to buy a safety box before the murder.

He confirmed the killer did not get out of the car.

He said police would not state the number of shot wounds on Lau, adding this would be for the pathologist to confirm in the post mortem.
