KUCHING: Several students in school uniforms were yesterday seen gathering at the spot where missing student Kho Ying Qi is believed to have slipped into a monsoon drain.

The students are believed to be the schoolmates and friends of the 19-year-old, who went missing after being swept away by swift flowing water in the drain near a petrol station at Jalan Rock a week ago.

Students offered prayers for Kho and placed bouquets of flowers along the road.

Some are believed to be students of SMK Batu Lintang, where Kho attended her Form 6 classes.

School authorities said they gave permission for some students to hold the gathering, which was carried out during school hours at their own initiative.

The body of Herman Sihas alias Mohd Sulaiman Abdullah, who drowned in his attempt to save Kho, was found last Saturday.

Civil Defence Department personnel found his body at Lorong Sungai Maong Ulu 3, some 3km from where he went missing.
