AirAsia X to withdraw flights to Europe, India

MALAYSIA’S long-haul budget carrier AirAsia X says it will eliminate flights to Europe and India due to soaring fuel prices, exorbitant taxes and weakening air travel demand, Associated Press reported.

AirAsia X says it will suspend flights from Kuala Lumpur to Mumbai starting Feb 1; to New Delhi, March 23; to Paris, March 31; and London, April 1.

AirAsia X says high jet fuel cost and slowing demand for air travel from Europe due to a weakening economy and high government taxes had hurt its ability to offer low fares. In India, it says visa restrictions and high airport and handling charges made it tough to operate.

It said in a statement Thursday it would focus on opening new routes and expanding in its core markets in Australia, China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea.
