KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian consumers generally opt for cars with future technologies that involve communication and information systems, according to a survey conducted by Accenture.

It said respondents to a survey of in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), had indicated that they would like their cars to have automated breakdown calling capability (92 per cent) and 82 per cent would be interested in the traffic-avoidance feature.

About 81 per cent favoured having a stolen vehicle recovery systems, 77 per cent the use of an automated emergency call capability and 72 per cent preferred to have a feature that would stop the vehicle and automatically send out an emergency call in a dire medical situation.

Apart from Malaysia, Accenture conducted the survey in six other countries including the US, China, France and South Korea.

A total of 7,000 drivers were involved in the global survey and an overwhelming majority of them said that of all the technologies what they would most like to use would a lane-changing/blind-spot warning system.

Accenture said besides reinforcing the fact that consumers were currently focused on IVI safety-driven technologies, the survey also showed that most of them would like their cars to be equipped with more communication and information related capabilities.

It said the growing popularity of IVI technologies could add up to US$200 in revenues per vehicle in mature markets every year. — Bernama
