PEKAN: Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of the prime minister, yesterday urged leaders and members of non-governmental organisations representing women to step out of their comfort zones and be more creative in their activities.

They need to be bold and think out of the box and be prepared to accept new ideas, so that society can appreciate their services, she said.

“Times have changed and we must be aware that the mindset and psychological development of society is very different now.

“For instance, when there’s a fire or flood or when there’s trouble in another country, the members of our organisations are there to lend a helping hand.

“After a while, people will realise our presence among them,” she said at a gathering of associations and NGOs, here. Also present was Pekan Women’s Institute chairman Datuk Melati Ali.

Rosmah said NGOs need to be wise in using existing channels such as the relevant government agencies and the mass media to ensure that their activities are implemented smoothly.

She praised the Pekan NGOs for taking the initiative to organise a basic cooking course for adolescents in the town in the effort to resolve the social ills faced by the community.

About 700 members of various NGOs and associations representing women in Pekan attended the gathering. — Bernama
