SIBU: A man hunting in a jungle in Belaga last Saturday was shot dead by a friend who mistook him for a wild boar.
Alexander Matu, 27, from Rh Temenggong, Nanga Ngungun, Kanowit died from a shot on
his right thigh in the 2am incident.
Belaga police have detained his 29-year-old friend, who is also from Kanowit. His home-made gun was also seized.
He is now under a seven-day remand, and is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
He and Alexander, both working for an oil palm plantation in Belaga, went hunting in the wee hours last Saturday.
The suspect told the police he discovered he had shot Alexander after he heard someone shout after he fired a shot.
Alexander was rushed to a clinic in Nanga Asap, but died on arrival.
A source close to his family said his body had been sent to Bintulu for a postmortem.
