Six fined for drunk driving

KOTA KINABALU: Six local men were fined by the Traffic Court here yesterday on separate charges of driving their vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

Leong Siaw Bin, 30, Jenner Keer Jeniter, 23, and Felix Ho Feng Nam, 43, were each fined RM1,200, in default, 30 days’ jail, while Jason Yuen Fit Fei, 28, Rayner Antonnay, 23, and Jackh Ryoma Kadius, 23, received a RM1,500 fine each, in default, 30 days’ imprisonment.

They pleaded guilty before magistrate Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim to each of their charges framed under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment 1994) which provides for a fine of not less than RM1,000 and not more than RM6,000, and a jail term of up to 12 months, upon conviction.

Traffic prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Wilynton Enchana Watt told the court that the six accused were arrested during separate operations along Jalan Kota Kinabalu, Jalan Penampang and Jalan Bundusan between July 3, 2011 and Dec 3, 2011.

Watt said that the urine and blood samples taken from all the accused contained alcohol exceeding the permitted level set under the law.
