SM Vocational Keningau first Sabah school to receive QE Certification

KENINGAU: SM Vocational Keningau is the first school in the state to have been awarded Quality Environment Practices (QE) Certification by the Malaysian Productivity Corporation.

Disclosing this here yesterday, SM Vocational Keningau Jusa C Outstanding principal Siti Aisa Haji Maidin said the school is among six technical and vocational secondary schools in the country to have been selected by the Technical and Vocational Education (BPTV) to be the pioneer of the ‘5S’ certification for Technical Schools and Vocational Education.

Siti Aisa said the school’s success in obtaining the certification was due to the cooperation of all parties involved – the school, private companies carrying out services at the school such as at canteen, dormitory, dining hall, cleaning the area and buildings and school security services, and also the Asset Maintenance Control Centre Officer, Sungai Petani, Kedah.

According to her, the implementation of ‘5S’ in the school system has a very significant impact on the school management in terms of cleanliness, safety, creativity and innovation.

She said the ‘5S’ had helped the school in reducing search time and the processing of files and equipment inventory.

“This programme is one of the BPTV efforts to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education,” she added.

The ‘5S’ Certificate Presentation Ceremony was held at the Gemilang Mercu Idaman hall, German-Malaysian Institute (GMI), Kajang, Selangor and was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin in conjunction with the launching ceremony of Vocational Education Transformation, Ministry of Education.

Siti Aisa said SM Vocational Keningau had previously been awarded many prestigious awards among others were the Education Minister’s Quality Award national level in 2000, Award on Safety, Cleanliness and Beauty of the Environment (3K) national level (2001), Award for Outstanding Library national level (2006), Champion of Outstanding School Award national level (2007), second place in award of Financial Management Quality Ministry of Education national level (2009), Audit Certificate Without Rebuke – Best Financial Management (2010) and Award of Merdeka Month Celebration national level in 2010.
