KUCHING: Kolej Sunway Kuching is embarking on its next step to expand and move to a new premises and this is targeted to take place in the first quarter of this year.

The expansion will involve relocating to Song Plaza, with floor area twice that of the current premises.

Situated at the Jalan Tun Jugah-Jalan Song intersection, it is seen as a strategic location and the upcoming commercial hub of Kuching. Chief executive officer of the college, Joseph Lim Jit Sek, sees it as a timely opportunity and sensible next step as the current college space has reached full capacity.

Another illustration of how the expansion will look like.

The new premises will feature a modern city campus with state-of-the-art facilities. Among others, there will be spacious lecture theatres, computer labs, offices and library as well as a garden-top student lounge with 24-hour security service.

There will also be approximately 300 parking bays available.

For the students’ studying enhancement, the Sunway City Campus is fitted with 24-hour wireless internet (Wi-Fi) access, so students can study anywhere from the foyer to the RoofTopGarden.

According to the CEO, an environment conducive to studying is just as important as quality education.

“We have successfully maintained our status as an ACCA Platinum Approved Learning Partner for the third consecutive sitting in the recent June 2011 examinations. It is time we match the quality of our education with a more contemporary teaching facility,” he said.

With much bigger space and enhanced hardware, the college is also hoping to expand the breadth of its courses. This would include developing its own diplomas and partnering with quality universities overseas to extend pathways already available.

In the pipeline, hostel facilities will also be established adjacent to the new college site. This will be convenient for outstation students to gain access to quality tertiary education with little woes in relation to their accommodation arrangements.

In order to meet the growing needs of Sunway students, we are embarking on an ambitious expansion plan that will make studying life here even more enjoyable, revealed its executive director Teo Ee Sing.

Established in 2007, Sunway College Kuching has grown and achieved much. The quality of its education is respected both at home and abroad. Its student population to date is 1,500 students on campus. It also has an exceptional teaching staff – each a respected member of the community – and still continues to touch the lives of all who pass through its halls in pursuit of the best education available.

“The accelerated growth of students’ population continues with the expansion of the internal diploma programmes. In order to meet the demands of this healthy growing student population, major expansion plans have been put in place,” he further elaborated.
