Naim transcending the boundaries in sculpting premium lifestyles

Bandar Baru Permyjaya materialised as the ‘branchild’ two years after the birth of Naim Holdings Bhd (early named Naim Cendera Sdn Bhd) in 1993 founded by Datuk Hasmi Hasnan together with Datuk Abdul Hamed Sepawi, who are currectly the chief executive officer and chairman of the group respectively.

Targeted for completion by 2020, the mammoth mixed-development project is situted along the Pujut-Kuala Baram Road in Miri that spans over an area of 2,500 acres with an estimated total gross development value (GDV) of over RM4 billion.

BUILDING TO ACCOMMODATE: Hasmi says Naim is well known as a premium developer that house owners can rely on as it delivers assets of quality and value.

The development comprises low to high-end residential, commercial and industrial units complemented by club house, community hall, schools, religious centres, sport facilities as well as a specially designed landscape garden.

“We consider amenities as the backbone for the future development of this project. They are the arms and legs of ones’ basic needs,” Naim senior director for corporate services Ricky Kho told BizHive Weekly during a site visit.

On the development front, Kho pointed out that Naim had used approximately 1,600 acres of land which was separated into 10 different projects with current total GDV of about RM1.5 billion. “Out of the 10 projects, we have completed five while the remaining will be completed subsequently over the next few years,” he added.

Naim successfully improved the traffic movement within the area after completion of a Pujut Bridge to connect the township and Miri city. “Before the completion, we used to travel as far as 30 minutes to reach home. However, due to the growing population here, the traffic congestion is quite intimidating especially during peak hours,” said Naim Land Sdn Bhd general manager for sales and marketing Alice Ting.

“The Miri landscape was witnessing the ongoing construction of Pujut 7 Bridge and the dual-carriageways which were expected to ease the traffic upon completion. Information from various news reports say that the project is expected to be completed by April 2013 and it involves a total an expenditure of RM115.57 million,” she explained.

Bandar Baru Permyjaya has a total population base of about 60,000 currently and was expected to reach a massive population base of 120,000 by 2020. “The economic activities over here have pushed up the land value and property prices by almost a fold if we compared it with 15 years ago. House prices have gone up from RM65,000 to RM120,000,” Kho revealed.

“After so many years, our property prices are still considered reasonably low compared with the rest of the developments around the city centre. This was in line with Datuk Hasmi’s bold vision to provide affordable housing for the masses,” he added.

Looking ahead, Bandar Baru Permyjaya would be a functioning reality upon completion of Danau Permy and Prima Villa North which are the remaining components of the whole mega mixed development project.

“Both of these will be the last two pieces of the remaining 900 acres of land. Construction of Danau Permy will start next year, while works on Prima Villa North is scheduled in another two or three years’ time. Prima Villa North will replicate the success of Prima Villa South comprising 400 units of high-end residential houses,” Ting revealed.

To-date, Naim has managed to build 16,000 units of property comprising residential, commercial and industrial units. “They are all situated within easy reach of the workplace, schools, shopping and other amenities, with direct links to key transport infrastructure such as airports and highways.

“And they all reflect the Naim Group’s commitment to quality and liveability. With all homes built to strict quality standards and handed over on time or ahead of schedule,” Kho said.

Naim’s success in the property field has also provided opportunities for expansion into the construction sector and the group has leveraged its expertise to complete over RM2 billion worth of contracts throughout Sarawak.

Naim Group became the first company in Sarawak to win one of the coveted CIDB awards — a feat it has now repeated three times — and the first company in the state to win the ‘Builder of the Year’ award.

“We built this company by creating a vibrant, people friendly community and by delivering assets of quality and value. Naim is well known as a premium developer that house owners can rely on. That is what we are best at and that will remain the core of our business for the foreseeable future,” quoted founder Hasmi.
