Government gives preference to people’s welfare – Najib

KUALA LUMPUR:  Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said that in advancing unity, the government gives preference to the people’s welfare through various initiatives.

All these initiatives are clearly in line with the Medina concept founded by Prophet Muhammad in ensuring the welfare of the people, he said in his message in conjunction with the “Maulidur Rasul” (the Prophet’s birthday) celebration, carrying the theme “Understanding the Basis for Unity of the Ummah”, posted on his www.1Malaysia.com.my blog.

Najib said the government’s initiatives through the 1Malaysia branding are the 1Malaysia Clinics, 1Malaysia Shops (KR1M), 1Malaysia Public Housing (PR1MA), 1Malaysia Menu (MR1M), 1Malaysia Unit Trust, 1Malaysia Fish Shops (KIR1M), 1Malaysia Book Vouchers (BB1M), 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) and 1Malaysia Investment and Savings Scheme (SARA 1Malaysia).

Recalling the struggle of Prophet Muhammad, the prime minister said the Prophet brought about transformation through his love for the people and his concern for their well-being.

Through propagation efforts, there emerged a great civilisation among the ummah, he said.

Najib said the theme of this year’s Maulidur Rasul celebration is consistent with the government’s efforts in implementing the national transformation agenda.

“It is this understanding that I highlighted through the Global Movement of the Moderates (GMM) with the call to foster moderation and balance in all aspects of our life.

“Indeed, the harmony and unity among the people of various races we have attained today serves as an example for people elsewhere in the world,” he said. –Bernama
