SMK Penrissen girls continue winning streak

KUCHING: SMK Penrissen No. 1 Girls U-18 cemented their status as the hockey powerhouse in Kuching when they maintained the winning streak of the Boys U-18 and U-15 in the MSSM Kuching Hockey Championship at the Sarawak Hockey Stadium on Saturday.

In the Girls U-18 final, Wilina Mac Carina dribbled past SMK Bau defenders to strike the winning goal from the 15 metres in the 23rd minutes.

After the goal, SMK Bau tried everything and their efforts almost paid off when a Sukma player, Christin Ela shot hit the wood work to deny them of the equaliser.

Thus SMK Penrissen No. 1 held dearly on to the end with tight defending marshaled by Feona Sharon Paul and lifted their fourth consecutive crown in the championship.

SMK Lake finished third after they edged SMK Paku 1-0 in the play-off for third/fourth placing.

Lake single goal came from Maureen in the dying minutes of the second half.

On Thursday SMK Penrissen No. 1 U-18 and U-15 Boys scored the double victory to add to the 12th consecutive title in the championship.

In the Girls U-15, SMK Bau trounced SMK Santubong 5-0 in the pulsating final to clinches the title.

Bau opening goals were scored by Rose Ida in the 15th minutes after receiving a cross into the D-area from Cammielia Miechthiel, a 16 year-old Sukma player who also netted a goal in the 27th minutes.

Another Sukma player Masklinda Ak. Okos scored a hattrick field goals in the 22th, 25th and 29th, for Bau comfortable win.

SMK Santubong consolations goal was scored by Sharulrina ak Entering, a 1 Malaysia player in the 26th minutes.

Both competitions were organised by SMK Santubong.

Seven teams were vying for top honours in the Girls U-18 contest.

They were defending champions SMK Penrissen No.1, SMK Bau, SMK St Teresa in group A and SMK Lake, SMK Paku, SMK Padawan and SMK Matang Jaya in group B.

As for the Girls U-15 competition which saw the participation of only six teams, defending champions SMK Bau was in group A with SMK Lake and SMK Matang Hilir while the teams in group B were SMK Santubong, SMK Semerah Padi and SMK Penrissen No. 1.
