KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) state leader Baru Bian yesterday spoke against leaders who resort to personal attacks against others, calling it an immature trait.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Baru said leaders who exercised personal attacks are actually lowering themselves and it reflects the lack of a better defence for their mistakes.

Baru who is Ba Kelalan assemblyman said this when commenting on Umno women chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil’s statement calling PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli ‘jambu’ (effeminate) recently.

“That is very uncanny of a minister, to attack a leader at a personal level. She is lowering herself by making such a personal insult. I think it’s also a reflection of how bankrupt some leaders are because there’s nothing they can use as a defence except to make personal attacks,” he said at a press conference at the PKR Stampin office here.

Shahrizat was reported as saying the Women’s wing would be sending a Wanita Umno ‘baju kurung’ to a certain PKR leader who was a jambu boy, as he would look good in it.

“In Perak, I received information that the jambu boy had been stalking me, trailing my movements over the last three months,” she said in an event in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week.

Although Shahrizat did not name the jambu boy, it is believed that she was referring to Rafizi.

In an immediate response, Rafizi quipped that he was actually flattered that Shahrizat wanted to send him a baju kurung.

“I will accept the gift graciously and gently place it in a wooden box and wait for an opportune moment to bury it along
with Barisan Nasional,” he responded.
