KUCHING: MP says website known to churn out lies and he hasn’t been informed who will be dropped

Websites such as the one which reported that nine Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) MPs will be dropped in the next general election are out to tell lies.

Mambong MP Datuk Dr James Dawos Mamit, who said this on Monday, is unfazed by the speculation that he is among the MPs that do not make the cut to be re-nominated come the 13th general election (GE13).

“I don’t know. Honestly, I do not know who will be dropped,” was the deputy tourism minister’s simple reply when asked to comment on the report posted by Malaysia Today (MT) news portal on Monday.

He was met by reporters at the Chap Goh Mei parade at Siniawan Bazaar, 25 kilometres from here on Monday night.

Dawos added that it didn’t matter to him as such websites were always out to tell lies.

Apart from Dawos, the eight other MPs named in the news portal are Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim (Batang Lupar), Datuk Wahab Dollah (Igan), Datuk Michael Leo Toyad (Mukah), Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib (Kota Samarahan), Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar (Santubong), Dato Sri Douglas Uggah Embas (Betong), Nancy Shukri (Batang Sadong) and Ahmad Lai (Sibuti).

The online report did not name its source of the news.

Meanwhile, PBB Youth chief Datuk Fadillah Yusuf, when questioning the credibility of the news, advised the public not to believe the report because of MT’s failure to name the source.

“All these are just speculations to weaken PBB,” the Petra Jaya MP told reporters when met at a 1Malaysia book voucher presentation ceremony at a college here.

As published in The Borneo Post yesterday, Nancy, who was disappointed with the speculation, stated that the best thing to do now was to ask the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership about the matter or ask MT who gave them the information.

Brushing off talks of moves to drop her in the next polls, she said: “As far as I am concerned, I have been asked to do my work as usual.”

Nancy’s sentiment was echoed by Rohani, who is Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Deputy Minister, last week when she said that she had been doing her work as usual — both for her parliamentary constituency and her ministry.

“I won in the last election. I am prepared to be the candidate in the next election and continue to serve the people.

“For all the rumours which stated that I am not healthy to carry on as MP, rumours that I was going to call it a day due to my bad knee, I can assure you that I am fine. I had my knee fixed and I am raring to go,” she had said.

Rohani also brushed aside statements that she was not a local in her constituency, saying that she was from Sri Aman.

A while back, a media report speculated that Rohani would be dropped due to her health problems.

And an engineer Mohd Eden Mohd Ali, 56, from Kampung Semarang, Meludam came out into the open and declared that he was prepared to replace Rohani as the next BN candidate.

He was a PBB Beting Maro deputy divisional chairman for more than seven years and is now an ordinary member.

When met by reporters after a function yesterday, Special Functions Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem refused to comment on the matter.
