KITA won’t be dissolved if it can rid itself of undesirable elements

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Keadilan Insan Tanah Air (KITA) will not be dissolved if it can free itself from being infested by undesirable elements and infiltrators.

Its central information chief Mohamed Mazlan Abdul Manaf said, however, if the party leadership felt the best way to prevent the party from being used to abuse the electoral process was to disband it, then this would be the decision taken.

He said the recent statement by party chief Datuk Zaid Ibrahim to dissolve the party reflected his personal view, and would be one of the options to be discussed at the party’s next Central Executive Committee meeting at the end of this month.

Mohamed Mazlan’s statement was posted on KITA’s website, www.partikita.com today to clarify the official party stance on the suggestion by Zaid to dissolve the party, aimed at avoiding aspersion that the party is supporting the opposition.

However, Zaid’s suggestion was rejected by several KITA state leaders, while some have even asked him to step down from his post and leave the party.

Mohamed Mazlan said as the party membership grew, it had unfortunately been infiltrated by members whose sole agenda appeared to be to contest in the next general election.

“While we welcome members who genuinely wish to contest in the elections to fight for the party’s manifesto and principles, we will not field candidates whose objective is to ‘spoil votes’, and who are being used by certain groups to achieve their political aims.

“Such conduct is despicable and against the party’s principles. We will certainly not allow the party to be used in that way,” he said. –Bernama
