KUCHING: 1Malaysia hockey development programme trainees from SK St. Thomas, champion team of the MSS Kuching Boys Under-12 Hockey Championship topped the number of players selected to represent Kuching in the MSS Sarawak Hockey Championship with five players.

They are Vanno Veen Heven(goalkeeper), Nicholas Alexon, Nigel Anderson and Ikmal Rezza and Clement Tsai Kim Bin.

According to Julian Ong U12 1Malaysia coach the players have been in the programme ever since it was introduced last year.

“If you have noticed, the trainees are classes about others in term of basic skills, such as stick-handling, ball-control/hitting and most important the safety game procedures to be taken when encountering their opponents,” Julian said during training session at Stadium Hockey Kuching yesterday.

He also reminded the players to play as a team.

“Even though some of you have good basic skills, you must always remember to play as a team or in a family, champions don’t win the match individually,” he stressed.

The selected players from SK Telaga Air, Kuching are Zarel Adrif, Fikri Fahmi and Wan Idham while Mohd Syukri, Mohd Supian and Dzul Azizal Donny are from SK Tabuan.

Others are Peter Ronaldi, Roberto Corlos and Simon Al Annyliana from SK Apar, Bau.

While in the Girls Under-12 squad, SK Apar as champion team topped the number of players selected to represent Kuching.

They are Favilla Evaline, Mestarine Sui Ann, Schukhalishtee and Venissa.

The selected players from SK Geobilt are Hadifa Zahira, Marion Ulok and Nur Masitah while Nur Fiqah, Nasuha (SK St. Mary) Nurul Izzati Yasmin, Nur Firda Risya (SK Telaga Air), Aliza Azlin, Stephanie and  Izzati (SK TSDH Mohamad, Padawan)

The Boys U12 squad is coached by Samad Hj Alem and assisted by Arif Omaruddin.

While the Girls U12 is coached by Julida Juing assisted by Royrel Rosden and Dayang Saliah.

Awang Adrus will be managing the Kuching team in the inter-division championship to be held at the Sarawak Hockey Stadium from Feb 14-17.
