KUANTAN: A total of 4,995 illegal foreign workers from 1,231 employers have been legalised under the Illegal Immigrants Comprehensive Settlement Programme (6P) for the East zone area.

Pahang Immigration Department director Datuk Mohamed Nasir Osman said, as of yesterday, the department had rejected registration application from 481 illegal foreign workers through that programme.

“They were rejected because they failed to pass the conditions,” he told reporters here yesterday.

The Kuantan Immigration office is the registration centre for the East zone (Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan).

Mohamed said there was a drop in the number of employers who turned up for the registration exercise yesterday, following yesterday’s announcement of an extension of the programme to April 10.

The announcement was made by Home Ministry secretary-general Tan Sri Mahmood Adam. — Bernama
