TAPAH: Action will be taken against hospitals that fail to report Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) cases, currently prevalent in Perak.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Rosnah Rashid Shirlin said clinics must refer AGE cases to hospitals and report them to district health offices.

“In the past, action had been taken against a private hospital which did not report a dengue case it treated,” she said after visiting AGE patients at the Tapah Hospital, here, yesterday.

She said reminder letters had been issued to government hospitals and clinics around Batang Padang and Hilir Perak districts on the prevalence of AGE.

Measures were also carried out jointly with agencies to check AGE and operations room have been opened in the two districts, Tapah and Teluk Intan.

Asked if vaccination was recommended, she said it was not compulsory but parents
could have their children vaccinated.

A total 188 cases of AGE were detected in Perak today, raising the total number of cases thus far to 3,256. — Bernama
