KUCHING: Student of Sekolah Kebangsaan Combined (SK Combined) started their year with rejunevated facilities after a recent social investment project by Shell Malaysia and its retailer in Kuching that gave the school a major facelift and new equipment.

During the recent ‘gotong royong’, over 30 Shell Malaysia staff and petrol station retailers gathered at the school to clean up its premises and repaint the school wall and gates.

Over RM30,000 was spent for the revitalisation of the school’s facade in efforts to improve the pupil’s surroundings and to make the environment more conducive to studying.

Among the items donated to the school were whiteboards, new titles for classroom floors and a fresh coat of paint for the school building and also the school gates.

Yesterday, the team returned with Azman Ismail, managing director for Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd to commemorate and symbolically hand over the project.

Speaking at the event, Azman said, “We are more than happy to contribute back to the community in which we operate. It’s great to see the improved environment of the school after the work the team put in and we are proud to make this small but significant difference to the school and its student.”

School principal Saftuyah Adeng thanked Shell, saying, “I am delighted with what Shell has done for us and this will really bless and touch the students here in a very meaningful and personal way.”

Shell undertook a wide range of social investment activities around Malaysia, focusing on its areas of operations. Social investment is Shell’s voluntary contribution to support communities and the broader society in which the multi-national group operates.

The company has over 80 retail stations in Sarawak, with 35 in the broader Kuching area.
