Road finally gets repaired, thanks to BN initiative

ALOR SETAR: Almost 10,000 people are said to use the one-kilometre-long Jalan Kilang Tebu here daily, but the pothole-ridden road has not been repaired for four years now, according to the Taman Ampang Residents Association.

Its chairman, Tan Eng Chuan, 57, said the road without street lighting has seen frequent accidents.

Today, Tan and his committee members were smiling. They expressed their appreciation to Datuk Latt Shariman Abdullah, the prime minister’s special functions officer, for having taken the initiative to patch up the potholes.

Tan and Latt Shariman, who is Kuala Kedah Umno head, supervised the repair work, carried out with funds collected by the latter.

Tan claimed that the association’s request to the PAS and PKR elected representatives for help to repair the road fell on deaf ears.

Latt Shariman asked the PAS-led Kedah government to use federal government allocations for road repair and maintenance for just that.

Kedah opposition leader Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid had raised the issue at the state legislative assembly, saying in November last year that the state government spent only RM53 million of the RM146.7 million federal government allocation for 2010. –Bernama
