CAUGHT IN THE ACT: A Policeman leading the suspects to the police station. One of the suspects pretended to be a physically disabled person.

SIBU: Four drug addicts, including a woman, were caught stealing milk powder from a store room in Ding Lik Kong Road yesterday morning.

The alarm triggered at 1am yesterday alerted the store owner though his mobile phone.

Policemen patrolling Sungai Merah were alerted of the incident and went to the scene.

They noticed a couple inside a Proton car stationed near the store and went over to check.

The couple were arrested after police found they were the lookout for their accomplices intruding the premises. They initially told police they were dating and the man pretended to be physically disabled.

The police then made their way in through the roof that had been cut open by the thieves. Inside the store were three men, trying to cart away merchandise when policemen came in. Two were arrested and one escaped.

The thieves were believed to have carted away boxes of milk powder through the roof where they had gained entry.

Four boxes of milk powder were recovered outside the store while a car and two motorcycles were impounded at the scene.

Police investigation revealed the thieves were not the store workers.  They believed the thieves could have gotten help from workers in their bid to steals.

The store owner had earlier found the premises broken into twice and losses incurred were reportedly more than RM10,000.

He had suspected the thieves to be his workers.
