KUALA SELANGOR: Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Razali Ibrahim has expressed confidence that the Students’ Peaceful Campus Tour will instill patriotism among university students for continued support and understanding of government policies.

He said the involvement of students in the programme will also assure leaders that students are ready to shoulder the responsibility of building a nation.

“The message of peace conveyed through the programme carries a significant connotation at a time when the masses, especially students in Syria and Egypt, revolted against the government in the name of freedom, but did not realise that the peace have escaped them although they have achieved independence.

“This is because freedom does not bring peace. We must preserve peace and thereafter we are free to do whatever we like,” he told reporters after launching an appreciation ceremony for the programme, here yesterday.

The programme, participated by 180 students from 22 public universities, began on Feb 6 in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan and continued to Melaka, Pasir Gudang, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Perak, Penang, Kedah, Perlis before ending at Sungai Besar, Selangor yesterday.

The highlight of the programme will be the Prime Minister’s Peaceful Assembly with Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and youths at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on March 17. — Bernama
